Speech & Drama: Carol Schroder


Working in the professional theatre, television and cabaret, Carol produced her one woman show. She teaches presentation skills in commerce and industry and has taught ESL, SEN and drama at schools and colleges including Guildford School of Acting, Grandison College and, for 22 years, at Italia Conti Academy of Performing Arts and, until 2007, Croham Hurst School, Croydon.

Carol is an adjudicator for The British and International Federation of Festivals and  examines for LAMDA throughout the UK, Ireland and worldwide. Writing “The Discussion” 1&2 for LAMDA she contributed to its Musical Theatre syllabus and “Musical Theatre – Exploring The World Through Song”. She was a trustee of Voice Care Network UK.

Music (Secondary Schools): Philip Dewhurst


Philip read music at the University of Newcastle-upon-Tyne under Professor Denis Matthews where he specialised in performance on the oboe. He completed a Post Graduate Certificate of Education and went into teaching. Philip gives occasional recitals and enjoys orchestral and chamber music playing on a freelance basis when his teaching commitments permit. He also has a passion for choral music and has conducted and directed choirs and choral societies throughout his career. As well as adjudicating around the country for The British and International Federation of Festivals, Philip is an examiner for Trinity Guildhall and an experienced GCSE and A level moderator. He is Director of Music at Cheadle Hulme School, Cheshire.

Music (Primary Schools): Stanley J Roocroft

Stanley Roocroft of Gayle, near Hawes, North Yorkshire, educated at Queen Elizabeth’s Grammar School, Blackburn, was a Choral Scholar of Blackburn Cathedral and a Royal Schools of Church Music chorister at the Coronation of Her Majesty Queen Elizabeth II.

After completing his education and teacher training his first appointment was as Head of Music Department at the Cathedral School in Wakefield where he was a member of the Music Advisory Committee. He established the woodwind, brass and percussion peripatetic teaching schemes in Halifax and Sheffield, eventually achieving the position of Head of Music Services in the Education Advisory Department for the City of Sheffield. Experience in the wider community included conducting bands, orchestras, operatic societies and music direction in the professional theatre.

He is currently the conductor of The Wensleydale Chorus, Aysgarth Singers and the Hawes Silver Band. As a former President of the Wensleydale Tournament of Song for sixteen years he is experienced in the organisation and running of a Music and Speech Festival as part of the British and International Federation of Festivals. Stanley has been a British and International Federation of Festivals music adjudicator for over forty five years and in 2005 was awarded the MBE in the Queen’s Birthday Honours for service to the communities in North Yorkshire.
